Recently my wife and I took a break from day to day life and headed to Thailand for a week of R&R.
Initially I had researched and found a resort with a fantastic gym and planned a weeks worth of programming based around the equipment provided.
After day one of a solid bench and accessory session. I realised part of taking that break from active training was a healthy thing for me.
My full time job is based around exercise, my hobby is based around exercise and although I don’t train like I once did, I still train quite consistently. So I scrapped the workouts for the rest of the trip. Not only did my body need a rest but my brain could also do with a little time away from thinking about training or exercise. So instead, we opted for pretty active days of swimming, walking, eating and the occasional cocktail.
I now feel incredibly refreshed and ready to smash the gym when I get back in there on Monday.
So, my take aways from this trip have been. Take some time away from the grind. If like me that means easing back on the training, enjoying some amazing food and a couple of cocktails. Or if you still need that structure of some training to flush out the brain and body then that’s fine too. The key is you do you. And if you need a hand with ideas of training for your holiday speak to the team and we can help give you a little bit of guidance.
